I don't really understand canceling, I know that sometimes when I hit a person I can hit them with a special before they recover but.. How do you make it so if they block your attack you recover faster so they don't get a free attack on you? is that possible?

From what I saw so far, hit recovery (canceling the stunt frame when your hit have been blocked) still exist in ss5sp, but not as frequent and usefull as seen in Amakusa's Revenge. Many hits that could be recovered in ss4 aren't anymore in ss5sp. And beside, while you could use AB to cancel it in 4, you can't do it with D in 5 special, so the only way around would be a special or super move. So in a nutshell, yes you can use special moves or super in ss5sp (must be done during the stunt animation) to cancel, and thus, reduce the time it take for your char to recover from a blocked hit (galford far standing strong slash canceled into plasma blade come to my mind in sp). But take note that it can only be done on specific hit pertaining to specific characters. For example, while galford can recover from his far standing strong slash, it don't mean every other char can do it, and some can but only at close range. In the end, it's just a choice the programmers did. I haven't tested it extensively yet but so far, the hits that allow you to do this seems pretty uncommon in ss5sp.

Thanks for the explanation, because I watched the match that was posted and thought it was interesting how fast they recovered.

are you talking about whiff cancel ? (cancel a move that doesnt hit ? )
or cancel a move into combo ?
so far cancel the recoil effect ? (cancel a blocked move that stun you > cancel a recoil by a special move or disarm move if you anticipate a counter attack from your opponent....)
btw hi Vans how are you ? nice to see that your website is online and going well !

I was talking about canceling recoil -
so you can cancel recoil to weapon deflect?
does that mean I could attack with AB to have it blocked, and then when they went to attack me only to lose their weapon?

yes you can but its mostly useless and its worst than been recoiled
because most deflect attack are slow to execute or recover
and its a pretty dangerous mindgame (even if its fun while working)
you should cancel recoil by a special move most of the time to trade
dont forget that the wide for cancelling a recoil is different for each characters, moves and short in time
(you can look at the yellow/orange symbol its not something sure but its a good mark in general for check the cancelability of your move)
