Who is Asura?

I've never seen this character before, is he a boss in the 3D game?? I did a google image search and it seems I have to of his pictures on 2 shirts I have.

Asura only appear in samurai shodown 64-2 (wor) and he is a selectable character like any other members of the cast (in both slash/bust form). I've heard from several peoples that yuga from wor2 is another form of Asura (share obvious similarities, the moves being one amongst them). The story surrounding Asura seems to be pretty elaborated, and i'm sure there's a lot of informations about him all over the web if you care to do a little research.

Edit: Just remembered he's also in Samurai Shodown2! for neogeo pocket, if it remotely matter.
